    SMS has a limit of 160 characters, and it doesn’t matter which network it is on. GSM/CDMA, etc. It’s part of the protocol.

    …except that for GSM phones, RIM has programmed the software to automatically break up the long text for you as you type, up to 6 or 7 messages of 160 each. CDMA carriers are capped at 1 message of 160. You have to send the first part, then continue writing.
