New Touchscreen Training Slide: BlackBerry Storm 3 or Storm 2 Refresh?

The above slide shows what is rumored to be a training slide for the upcoming BlackBerry Storm 3, which according to the specs looks like a somewhat minor update to the Storm2. We have been hearing a lot of rumors about the Storm 3, such as the fact that it will come with a new OS possibly developed in partnership with the recent QNX acquisition. If you’re going to believe these rumors, the device described here is more of a Storm2 refresh with BlackBerry 6. This makes sense as RIM will probably refresh all OS 5 devices to run OS 6 before they start rolling out what could be considered OS 7.

The slide shows this Storm 3 having:

  • BlackBerry 6
  • WebKit Browser
  • 512MB Of RAM
  • 5MP Camera With new UI
  • World Edition
  • 802.11n WiFi
  • 3G Mobile Hotspot (Coming Soon)

The 3G Mobile Hotspot feature is cool and we can expect this refresh to happen some time around the holidays. RIM is pretty clockwork about their device releases so you can assume that the “Storm 3″ will launch around the same time that the Storm 2 launched last year.

short of LTE is pretty much what I expected to see in the Storm 3. I see no reason that it wouldn't run OS6

It's seems increasingly likely that the new WebKit browser will only work well (or at all) on devices with at least 512 MB of RAM.

LTE is over 1 year away. Regardless of what you've read about LG having an FCC passed modem, and a Verizon LTE SIM for 4G - REAL 4G btw - the network is in EARLY testing. Not to mention their going to launch on rumored 700Mhz; which is yet another stupid band to deal with and look for in new hardware.
