RIM Offers Free Premium Apps to Customers Following Service Interruptions

In the wake of last week’s BlackBerry service interruptions, RIM has announced that they will be giving away a suite of premium apps to customers. The app selections include several hit game titles, productivity apps, and premium audio apps. The package would have cost over 100 dollars if it were purchased through App World.

There’s no arguing that this last weeks’ BlackBerry service interruption have been the largest and most widespread yet. There have been smaller service interruptions in the past but this is the first time that a smartphone maker has offered a premium software recompense to all their clients for coping with the service interruptions. The only thing comparable to this was Apple’s free bumper giveaway during the iPhone 4G antennaegate fiasco.

Here’s a list of apps included in the bundle:

  • SIMS 3 - Electronic Arts
  • Bejeweled - Electronic Arts
  • N.O.V.A. - Gameloft
  • Texas Hold’em Poker 2 - Gameloft
  • Bubble Bash 2 - Gameloft
  • Photo Editor Ultimate - Ice Cold Apps
  • DriveSafe.ly Pro - iSpeech.org
  • iSpeech Translator Pro - iSpeech.org
  • Drive Safe.ly Enterprise - iSpeech.org
  • Nobex Radio™ Premium - Nobex
  • Shazam Encore - Shazam
  • Vlingo Plus: Virtual Assistant - Vlingo

In addition to offering the software suite, RIM is offering a free month of enhanced technical support for all their enterprise clients. To get details on this free month of technical support, go to RIM’s support page.

The suite of apps will begin to be made available after Wednesday October 19th and will continue to be available until December 31st 2011. This bundle of free apps is not yet finalized so expect a few more items on the list as this rolls out.

While this won’t change what’s passed, I personally think this is a peace offering that demonstrates some good will toward RIM customers and let’s face it, goodwill needs preserving in this crazy market space
