Adobe Kills Flash on Mobile But Assures Continued PlayBook Support


Adobe gets a lot of criticism when it comes to Flash on mobile and the company has recently announced that it will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations. PlayBook owners do not have to worry because apparently Adobe will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates.

It makes you wonder about the decision to support Flash on the PlayBook when Adobe themselves don’t seem to have enough confidence in the technology to support it on other mobile devices. Adobe will not release any more versions of Flash player for mobile, but according to Adobe, they “will also allow our source code licensees to continue working on and release their own implementations.” So RIM could continue to release updates assuming they are source code licensees.
