BlackBerry Bold launches in Spain and Serbia

View Comments

Add two new countries to the list of places that have BlackBerry Bold availability before RIM’s largest market. Telefonica, Spain’s largest carrier, has yet to release any pricing info, but has announced BlackBerry Bold availability for its subscribers. Our Spanish friends can heat to www.blackberrybold.es for more information or read our exhaustive review linked below.

Serbians have one up on the Spaniards, however, as Serbian carrier Vip announced the release of not only the BlackBerry Bold but the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 as well through the Vodafone Office product portfolio.

“We are delighted that as a result of our ongoing relationship, Vip are extending their Vodafone Office product range to include the latest BlackBerry smartphones,” said Paul-Gerhard Itjeshorst, Executive, Vodafone Partner Market. “Mobile email is an essential tool in today’s fast-paced business world and Vip are working hard to ensure their customers in Serbia can enjoy the full benefits of the complete BlackBerry solution.”

This is pretty great news for our Serbian friends, as the country has only had Blackberry service since December of 2007. Once again, no pricing information is available, but it will eventually turn up on Vip’s BlackBerry product site.

T-Mobile expands 3G coverage to 13 cities

View Comments

Good news today for T-Mobile subscribers hoping that one day their carrier will support 3G BlackBerrys. T-Mobile has announced the expansion of its 3G coverage to 13 major markets as well as the signing of backhaul agreements to cope with the increased traffic across its network. T-Mobile’s 3G network is currently available across 13 major metropolitan markets: Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Minneapolis, New York (including northern New Jersey and Long Island), Phoenix, Portland, San Antonio and San Diego.

T-Mobile also confirmed that it was on track to expand its 3G service to 27 major markets in the United States by the end of 2008, with Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando, Philadelphia, Sacramento, San Francisco and Seattle coming by mid-October and n additional six markets — Birmingham, Denver, Detroit, Kansas City, Memphis and Tampa — available before the end of the year. This would expand T-Mobile 3G services to more than two-thirds of T-Mobile’s current data customers, with meaningful expansion to additional customers and markets through 2009.

So what do you think, folks? Do you think 2009 in a reasonable time line to see 3G BlackBerrys like the Bold on T-Mobile? Post a comment and let us know.

AT&T product sheet says November ETA for BlackBerry Bold

View Comments

Oh no! We’ve been having our fun here at BlackBerry Cool pointing out AT&T’s BlackBerry Bold launch problems while playing with our Rogers Bold, but you’re heart has to go out to AT&T subscribers. The Boy Genius has published an AT&T product sheet dated September 17th that puts the ETA for the BlackBerry Bold release sometime in November. Despite this, BG remains confident in his October 2nd launch date, but I have to wonder why he’s as hopeful as Jim Balsillie about the earlier launch time.

There is some positive BlackBerry news for AT&T subscribers, however. The Sapphire Blue BlackBerry 8320 is set to arrive October 21st, with an Oyster Pink BlackBerry Pearl coming October 2nd. A Burnt Orange BlackBerry Curve model has been pushed to 2009, sadly.

Question of the day, folks: are you now more interested in the BlackBerry Storm, which has a similar launch timeline, or are you still Bold people? Post a comment and let us know.

Orange launches BlackBerry Bold in Romania

View Comments

Did anyone else notice during Jim Balsillie’s keynote at CTIA how he always prefaced the AT&T Bold launch in early October with the word ‘hopefully’? I wonder why he didn’t also mention how hopeful he was for Orange and our Romanian friends? Busting right out of Bucharest, Orange and RIM jointly announced the launch of the BlackBerry Bold in Romania today. Part of the France Telecom group, Orange is nothing to sneeze at with 10 million subscribers in Romania, making it at least as big as Rogers here in the frozen North.

“We are glad to offer our customers the 3G-enabled BlackBerry Bold smartphone. Orange continues to bring the latest products and solutions to the Romanian market and currently offers four BlackBerry smartphones and a wide range of BlackBerry smartphone tariff plans,” stated Razvan Sturza, Orange Romania Product Manager.

The BlackBerry Bold, already available for Orange corporate customers, can now be found in Orange storefronts, ranging from 349 Euros - 439 Euros depending on the BlackBerry smartphone tariff plan chosen.

BlackBerry Bold now available in the Dominican Republic

View Comments

BlackBerry Cool has quite a worldly flavor to it right now, writing these international BlackBerry Bold announcements while in San Francisco. Our friends at BB.COM.DO have tipped us off that Claro has announced the release of the BlackBerry Bold for the Dominican Republic, although no pricing information has been made available yet.

… So, this is maybe the 13th Bold announcement post I’ve done in the past 10 days. There’s really nothing more to say. The only country that doesn’t have the BlackBerry Bold by now is the Federated States of Micronesia — oh wait, and the United States of America. Zing!

AT&T BlackBerry Bold might be coming October 2nd

View Comments

The latest word from rumor czar the Boy Genius is that AT&T has finally settled on a launch date for the BlackBerry Bold: Thursday, October 2nd, with full store availability by the 6th. BG also states, however, that AT&T stores will be able to order the devices as early as September 24th, raising the question of whether store managers will cave and sell early if they arrive before the 2nd.

Of course, for those who just can’t wait, you could visit BlackBerryBusiness.com, which is selling pre-release AT&T Bolds right now at a fairly high markup OR you could enter CrackBerry’s excellent BlackBerry Unlock Code Contest.

Question of the day friends: can you hold out until October, or do you need a BlackBerry Bold right now?

United Kingdom and Jamaica next to get the BlackBerry Bold

View Comments

The list of countries now carrying the BlackBerry Bold continues to grow, as Vodafone UK and Cable and Wireless Jamaica both made announcements on Friday while we were stuck in airport hell (note: never tell U.S. Customs that your name is “Cool. BlackBerry Cool.” They won’t think it’s funny).

While there’s no word yet on BlackBerry Bold pricing for C&W Jamaica, Voda UK has posted their pricing lists and they’ll make you scream “God save the Queen!” Featuring a variety of plans, Vodafone is offering the Bold for anywhere between free and £187, with a special Anytime promotion of £35 a month with a 2 year contract for 600 minutes, unlimited text messaging and 500 MB of data. Definitely something we’re not used to seeing on this side of the pond.

BlackBerry Bold to come to Mexico

View Comments

The next in a growing list of BlackBerry 9000 launches comes from Mexico’s Telcel. There’s not much showing up on their site, so no solid details on pricing, but that seems to be a common trend across plenty of carriers bringing out the Bold. Of course, we’re still waiting for AT&T to throw Americans a bone, but the latest rumours are pointing to a mid-September to early October release date. If we have any Mexican readers out there, feel free to leave a comment with any more info from your neck of the woods.

Thanks Daniel!
