RIM’s “Operation Disruptive Transformation” is a Marketing Consultant

Operation Disruptive Transformation

We were sent over this presentation and at first glance it looks really obvious. We know RIM is talking about a transformation publicly and internally and this document seems less like something that was discussed internally and more a presentation to some RIM team members by an outside marketing firm. The slides are marked with John J Simpson, and there’s a marketing professional on LinkedIn with that same name. Sure, RIM has had some poor looking slides in the past, but this seems to high-level and obvious to be something that would be passed around or demonstrated internally.

We know RIM often has marketing people come present to them and this seems like one of those presentations. For example, RIM recently had Scott Stratten of UnMarketing go to its Waterloo office to give a presentation on how to market the company effectively. It’s normal for a large company to have guest speakers to present ideas that may or may not be used internally. This just looks like one of those presentations and the author is passing it around like a leaked document to try and drum up interest for his own career. Anyways, that’s our thought on it. More slides if you click through.

UPDATED: Twitter for BlackBerry Version Available for BlackBerry 6 Devices

twitter for blackberry

Twitter for BlackBerry has had an incredible impact on the growth of Twitter and while there are some great third party apps out there, it’s hard to have the same impact as a first party app. The official Twitter app is pretty decent BlackBerry app but it still needs a lot of work. Since we first reviewed the official Twitter app, not that much has changed in terms of core features. With this new version, we’re seeing a new icon but again, it’s lacking some killer features. The update seems more graphics-related.

Three Awesome New BlackBerrys Get Leaked: New Curve, Torch and Dakota

The BlackBerry Dakota

Today was an great day for BlackBerry leaks as the upcoming Curve, Torch and all new Dakota made an appearance. Both the Curve and the Torch are packing magnetometers, as well as BlackBerry OS 6.1. A magnetometer, which can be found in a lot of smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S, measures the strength and/or direction of the magnetic field, which helps a lot with mapping apps.

Of all the leaks, the upcoming BlackBerry Dakota is probably the most interesting. Many BlackBerry users have been looking forward to a BlackBerry with the original Bold form factor. The smartphone fits nicely into your hands and we’ve been saying for some time on this site that we want the form factor to come back. Well it’s coming back, and it’s going to make a huge entrance. The Dakota features a touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard, as well as HD video recording.

Something that’s probably disconcerting about these leaks from RIM’s perspective, is that users are going to start wondering whether or not these devices will get the QNX OS. The reality is that these devices are what’s going to carry us to 2012, and they won’t be sporting the QNX OS. Will BlackBerry users, knowing this, hold off on purchasing a new BlackBerry until they hear about upcoming devices that will be getting the QNX bump, which could probably be considered OS 7?

Hit the jump for specs on all three devices.

Leaked BlackBerry Desktop Manager

blackberry desktop manager 6

BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6.0 is a decent upgrade from the previous version of Desktop Manager but it still needs a little ways to go. The latest version supports 6.0 devices and is meant to make the experience a little more user friendly. In the latest leaked version of 6.0, you’ll find:

  • Microsoft Outlook & Exchange 2010 64-bit are now supported
  • Administrator silent install
  • Organizer sync improved
  • Wi-Fi sync streaming now supported for over SSL (BlackBerry 6)

You can grab the latest leaked version from MegaUpload or from hotfile.

BlackBerry 6 Response Times on the Bold 9700 vs the Torch 9800

Have you loaded BlackBerry 6 on your Bold 9700? Even the leaked version that hit the Internet recently is more responsive than the Torch 9800. I’ve loaded the latest version of BlackBerry 6 on each device and even though the Torch 9800 has more icons on the screen, the Bold 9700 is definitely more responsive. Hopefully the Torch will get faster with a few more updates because the lag time on the device is a little frustrating. Other than that, the Torch is arguably the best BlackBerry to date.
